One of the most famous circles in the British Isles, Rollright consists of a stone circle (The King's Men), a standing stone (The King Stone), and a burial chamber (The Whispering Knights). Believed to date from 3000 BC; there are about 77 chunks of weathered limestone around the 103-ft perfect circle, some of which are nearly lost in the short turf. The site was described in the 18th-century as the greatest antiquity yet seen at that time. There were only 26 stones standing in the early 17th century; re-erection of the stones was done in 1882. There is no other stone ring near the Rollright Stones, but the circle lies in an area of henges.
