The Botanic Gardens at Winterbourne occupy a site close to the centre of the campus. Beyond them lie the woodlands and lake of Edgbaston Park, an area of natural beauty, part of which is a Nature Reserve. The Edwardian, Arts & Crafts style garden covers 6 acres and combines themed gardens and plant collections ranging from scree and alpine areas to herbaceous borders and perennial meadow, bog garden and arboretum. Their rose plantings in The Walled Garden illustrate the history of the rose from remote times to the present day, now registered wi as a National Rose Collection. The Friends of Winterbourne Gardens sponsor a wide range of activities, from lectures and working in the garden to plant sales and open days.
