The Colliery Museum is situated in the QE 11 Country Park which includes a lake, small adventure playground and woodland ideal for fishing, picnics and rambles. The park is also a venue for many events ranging from the Miner's picnic and colliery bands to vintage car rallies and family fun days. A 1km railway runs from the Museum to the Lakeside Halt. The round trip takes about 20 minutes at 5-7 mph. The ride takes you through the QEll Country Park giving excellent views of the lake. Much of the rail equipment, including colliery loco "Black Diamond", was donated by British coal. Colliery Museum open all year, Wed-Sun and Bank Holiday Mondays.
