Loxahatchee River Historical Society features exhibits of prehistoric artifacts, objects from the 19th century Seminole Indian War, and more modern sites. On display for the first time are a number of artifacts from Riverbend Park, recently designated as a historic district; the park contains a number of ancient Seminole villages and Loxahatchee battlefield sites, as well as the remains of African-American settlers homes and early citrus growers structures. A collection of shell, bone and stone artifacts of the Jeaga people who occupied the area when Ponce de Leon entered the Inlet in 1513 are included in the exhibit. Highlights include a recently discovered 17-ft prehistoric dugout canoe which was preserved in a waterlogged state that prevented the deterioration of the wood. The museum also offers tours of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and the Dubois Pioneer Home. Located in Burt Reynolds Park. The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday, year-round.
