Fort Meade is located in Polk County, within the Central Region, between Bartow and Wauchula along Hwy 17 near Pembroke (part of the Lakeland-Winter Haven, Florida metro area). This community is also situated along the Peace River.Fort Meade is the oldest settlement in Polk County, dating all the way back to 1849 when a settlement sprung-up around the U.S. Cavalry Fort during the Seminole Indian Wars. The value of the location as a military base was recognized during the Seminole Indian Wars and a fort was constructed as a strategic point. Now days, Fort Meade is full of recreational activities in and around Fort Meade, which will provide entertainment and excitement for all ages.
