Fort Zachary Taylor is a National Historic Landmark; the park, which covers a total of 87 acres, includes a beach area which affords visitors an excellent place to swim and snorkel; the area along the west side of the park is ideal for saltwater fishing. Shaded picnic areas are available which include tables, grills, and outside shower and bathhouse facilities. Guided tours of the 3-story fort, which includes the largest collection of Civil War cannons in the US as well as a number of guns and ammunition excavated in the fort's gun rooms, are offered daily.
