Bradford County north of
Gainesville between
Lake Butler and
Middleburg (part of the
Jacksonville, Florida metro area). The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 731, an increase of 55 since 1990.
The Lawtey Correctional Institution is located in this community, and it was established in 1973 as a community vocational center housing work release inmates. In 1977 it was converted to a major institution housing adult male inmates.
