Longboat Key is part of the Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida metro area. Longboat Key lies within two counties. The northern portion of Longboat Key is in Manatee County and the southern portion is in Sarasota County. The Town is also accessed by bascule (draw) bridges. A large number of Longboat Key's nearly residents are retirees, who enjoy the island's championship golf course and tennis club, and its fine dining and shopping.
