Madison is located in Madison County (of which it is the county seat) east of Tallahassee between Tallahassee and Live Oak along Highway 53 near the Withlacoochee River and the Georgia state line. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,356, an increase of 11 since 1990.
There is also a Madison, Wisconsin.
This community was named in honor of President James Madison, the city was founded in 1838.
In the heart of downtown Madison is home to the Four Freedom monument. President Franklin D. Roosevelt commissioned the monument in honor of the late Captain Colin P. Kelly, a Madison native and the first U.S. war hero of World War II.
Cherry Lake offers excellent swimming, fishing and boating. Three pristine rivers form the eastern and western boundaries of Madison County, the Suwannee, Withlacochee, and Aucilla, and all offer great canoeing, fishing and swimming.
