Maitland Florida

Maitland is located in Orange County along Interstate 4 just north of Orlando between Lake Mary and Winter Park near Lake Jessup (part of the Orlando, Florida metro area).

Maitland, one of the oldest incorporated municipalities in Central Florida, is a city full of history. This area was once called Fumecheliga by the Seminole Indians. The US Army established Ft. Maitland in 1838 on real estate on the west shore of Lake Maitland as a rest stop between Fort Mellon and Fort Gatlin.

Maitland's main attraction is however The Audubon's Center for Birds of Prey. This facility is the leading raptor rehabilitation facility in the Southeast which has treated thousands of eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, kites and vultures since opening in 1979.

A popular attraction is the "Cultural Corridor", which encompasses on old residences still standing in the area.
