St Anthonys Hospital

In 1931, the Sisters of the Third Order or St. Francis of Allegany, New York came south to St Petersburg, Florida to establish the first Roman Catholic hospital on Florida's West Coast. Originally, the sisters renovated the old Faith Hospital in the city, but within a short time, it became necessary to build a brand-new hospital, which opened to the community as St. Anthony's Hospital in late 1931.

Today, the hospital is a modern medical center with a license for 415 beds, more than 1,000 professional health care employees and admissions of over 12,000 annually.

Beginning with the first community blood bank in Pinellas County in 1948, St. Anthony's has a long tradition of innovative firsts in health care. More recently, the hospital developed the first stroke center in Florida in 1994. The hospital is also noted for its centers of medical excellence in surgery, cancer, behavioral medicine and older adult services.
