City Map with Features
The Miami Art Museum opened with its first donations of art in 1996, and presented its first major exhibition in 1997. The museum's collection reflects its dedication to living artists, and continues to expand rapidly. Visitors experience art in new and interactive ways at the museum; free Second Saturday programs feature museum teachers leading families in educational, hands-on activities inspired by works on view. The museum's Artventure program allows busloads of students to tour the museum, while 'JAM at MAM' offers evenings of art and entertainment on the third Thursday of the month. The Visitors Gallery provides a variety of ways to research and respond to art, from books, videos and CD-ROMs to poetry walls and easels for drawing. Docent-led bilingual tours available. Admission to the museum is free to all on Sundays; closed Mondays.
