Online Highways Home > Florida > Pensacola City Map with Features National Museum of Naval Aviation Traces the development of American naval aviation from its beginnings to the present. Among the highlights of the collection are the NC-4 Flying Boat, which in 1919 became the first plane to cross the Atlantic; the World War II fighter F6F Hellcat; and the Skylab Command Module, in addition to more than 140 other historic naval aircraft. Four A-4 Skyhawks are suspended from the ceiling in formation in the Greater Pensacola Blue Angel Atrium. Bus tours feature additional aircraft. The world-famous Blue Angels flying team can be seen practicing from a viewing area adjacent to the museum. Practices are normally held on Tuesday mornings (weather permitting) during the season. Other activities allow visitors to take the controls of aircraft trainers & simulators, ride a motion-based simulator, and an IMAX theater presents films every hour.
