The University of Miami, founded in 1925, is a private university. It should not be confused with
Miami University in Ohio.
Admission to the undergraduate student body of around 7500 is highly competitive. Only about half the students are from Florida. Fraternities and sororities are quite active. The university's 260-acre campus is six miles south of Miami. Popular majors include psychology, biology, and marketing.
