Angers is located along the Maine River equidistant to Paris (2-1/2 hours by car and 1-1/2 hours by high-speed train) and the Atlantic Ocean. With more than 300 km of navigable waterways and 250 km of footpaths, Angers provides a range of activities for travelers and is often used as a base for exploring the chateau district to the west. The old city is on the left bank of the river, with three bridges crossing to Doutre.
