Established by poet Frederic Mistral, using the money from his Nobel Prize for Literature, this museum traces the life and culture of Arles from the 17th to the 19th century. On display are local costumes, furniture, crafts and folklore, providing an insight into the Provencal way of life. In the central courtyard of the museum are the ruins of a Roman temple.
