Aubers, in the Weppes country to the west of Lille, was criss-crossed by trenches in the First World War and completely destroyed. Two trails that trace the history of the battles of those days remind visitors of the town s past. Aubers boasts 6 hectares of fishing lakes plus the renowned Joncquoy lime tree which dates back to the 15th century. Other points of interest include the Englos Church, a rare example of Romanesque architecture in a church founded by the Benedictines, and the Marquillies Carriage Museum, displaying 30 19th-century carriages in a 200-year-old barn.
