Bayonne

Located 114 miles SW of Bordeaux between the Nive and Adour rivers, Bayonne is the capital of the French Basque country. Sections of the city s Roman and medieval walls have been preserved, and the district around the cathedral, known as Grand Bayonne, is easily explored on foot. The rue du Pont Neuf is a lively shopping area, lined with cafes and shops selling local specialties.
