Located SW of Montpellier and 14 km from the Mediterranean Sea, Beziers is situated on a hill overlooking the Orb River, where it is intersected by the Canal du Midi. The capital of the Languedoc wine region, Beziers is also noted for its bullfights and rugby. A spectacular view of the city can be enjoyed coming in from Carcassonne, crossing the river at Pont-Neuf, highlighting the medieval Cathedrale St-Nazaire. The top of the cathedrals tower affords an impressive view of the surrounding vine-covered landscape.
