Beaugency

Beaugency lies on the right bank of the Loire River, 93 miles SW of Paris and 53 miles NE of Tours. The city s 14th-century bridge served as the only crossing point (until modern times) of the Loire between Blois and Orleans, making the city a target of enemy attack. The city was liberated from English control in 1429 by Joan of Arc. Today, this medieval city is a good base from which to explore the surrounding region.
