Located 196 miles SE of Paris and 24 miles SW of Dijon on the Bouzaise River, Beaune is the capital of the Burgundy wine country and one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the region. The towns main attraction is the 15th-century Hotel-Dieu, which originally served as a hospital. Located on the corner of place de la Halle, it houses a 15th-century polyptych entitled The Last Judgement, by Rogier van der Weyden. On the third Sunday in November, an annual wine auction is held in the hospital vineyards.
