The Abbey of Vaucelles

The Abbey of Vaucelles, a Cistercian abbey dating from the 12th century, is located 12 km south of Cambrai. Four halls are open to the public, the Monks Hall, the Oratory, the Chapter House and the passage to the church, and exhibitions and concerts are offered here throughout the year. Of the church itself, only ruins remain -- enough for visitors to see that it was the biggest Cistercian church in Europe At 150 yards long, it was bigger than the Notre-Dame in Paris. Open March to November.
