What began as a hunting lodge in the Foret de Boulogne is, today, the Loires largest residence. Begun by Francois I, this grand chateau features ornately sculpted gables, a double-helix staircase believed to have been designed by Leonardo da Vinci and the opulent bed chamber of Louis XIV, who completed the 440-room palace in 1685.
