Built in 1020, the Romanesque cathedral which first stood here was largely destroyed by fire in 1194. Rebuilt in just 25 years, Notre-Dame is considered the greatest Gothic cathedral in Europe. It boasts over 150 stained-glass windows illustrating biblical stories. The cathedral remains almost unaltered since 1250.
