Notre-Dame-de-Paris, begun in 1163 and completed 170 years later, is a masterpiece of French Gothic art. After being ransacked during the Revolution and used as a temple to the Cult of Reason after the Revolutionaries banishment of religion, the cathedral was restored in the 19th century by Viollet-Le-Duc and is, today, one of the buildings most associated with the history of Paris
