Built on the orders of Louis IX (known as Saint Louis) in the middle of the 13th century to house relics purchased by the devout king, including what was believed to be Christs Crown of Thorns and a fragment of Christs cross, the Gothic chapel features radiant stained-glass windows dating from the 15th century. The Rose Window located above the chapels main entrance recounts the story of the Apocalypse and was a gift from Charles VII. Sainte-Chapelle is located within the enclosure of the Palais de Justice de Paris.
