Perched on a mountain in the center of the island, Corte is flanked by the Restonica Valley, which leads to Melo Lake, and the Tavignano gorges, which are among the most beautiful on the island. The Old Town, lined with narrow, cobbled lanes, is home to the 15th-century citadel. Housed within the citadel is the Musee de la Corse, which outlines traditional Corsican life.
