Search Visit

Called the greatest of the French Romantic painters, Eugene Delacroix (1798-1863) produced paintings with a historical, contemporary or literary theme in addition to exotic subjects inspired by an 1832 trip to Morocco. His use of unblended color had an impact on Impressionist and Postimpressionist painters. In 1833 Delacroix produced a series of murals for the Palais Bourbon, continuing to do architectural paintings until a few years before his death. A comprehensive collection of Delacroixs works is on display at the Musee Eugene Delacroix, the site of his former apartment in Paris.
