The Belfry

Search Dunkirk

Built in 1440, the Dunkirk belfry escaped the almost-complete destruction of the town in 1940. A panorama of the entire town can be enjoyed from the sixth floor of this 65-meter-high building. It is currently separated from the Saint Eloi church, of which it was originally the belltower. (The church houses the tomb of local hero Jean Bart.) At its base, there is a cenotaph dedicated to the memory of the soldiers of the First World War. Address: Rue de l'Amiral-Ronarch
