Fourmies France

Situated in the heart of the Avesnois countryside, Fourmies provides visitors with some important touristic and cultural assets. The four lakes of the Etangs des Moines (Rue des Etangs), featuring a 2-star campsite, offer a variety of activities, including mountain-bike treks and mini-golf. Also of interest is Fourmies' Ecomuseum (Place Maria Blondeau), a magnificent visual reminder of the town s once prosperous textile industry. Housed in a former textile mill, the museum's collection includes weaving looms that were still in use at the beginning of the 20th century. Fourmies was made famous by the courage demonstrated by its workers in May 1891 which led to France's May Day holiday celebration.
