Search St-Jean-de-Luz

The Basque fishing village of St-Jean-de-Luz is situated at the mouth of the Nivelle River, opening onto the Bay of Biscay, near the Spanish border. A 15-minute train ride connects the town to Biarritz, and the TGV from Paris takes approximately 5 hours to reach St-Jean. St-Jean boasts the only natural harbor on the coast from Arachon to Spain, offering a spot safe for swimming with a beautiful white-sand beach. Although quite crowded in July and August, visitors are rewarded with fresh seafood including chiporones (squid cooked in its own ink), a local specialty.
