Located at the foot of the Roncevaux Pass, which leads into Spain, St-Jean-Pied-de-Port was an important stop along the route to Santiago de Compostela. Situated on the Nive River, this fortified town is surrounded by red sandstone walls and its citadel offers visitors a panoramic view of the surrounding area.
