The former Sainte-Genevieve church, converted into a pantheon around the time of the Revolution, has been used for centuries to receive the ashes of men important in the history of France, including Mirabeau, Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Emile Zola, Louis Braille and Pierre and Marie Curie. Its facade, based on the Pantheon in Rome, features 22 Corinthian columns.
