It took four years, from 1924 to 1928, to this town hall, replacing the one on the Place Rihour that burnt down in 1916. The exterior of the building took its inspiration from Flemish houses marked by triangular gables, while the interior is impressively functional. An exceptional display of works by contempary artists adorns the stairways, corridors and municipal meeting rooms. A spectacular fresco by the Icelandic painter Erro tells the eventful story of the town in the form of a strip cartoon. The belfry, completed in 1932, dominates the region from a height of 104 meters. On its base are carved the mythical founders of the town, the giants Lyderic and Phinaert.
