Located on the Tarn River at its confluence with the Garonne, 40 km east of Agen, the village of Moissac is famous for its 7th-century abbey. A former Benedictine abbey, the abbey of St-Pierre features a late-11th-century cloister lined with marble arcades and, most notably, a 12th-century tympanum carved above the churchs south portal which is an extraordinary example of Romanesque design.
