Montmartre

Search Visit

A mecca for artists, writers and poets at the end of the 19th century, drawn by the areas bordellos and cabarets, Montmartre, today, shows visitors a more tranquil face. A major attraction is the areas hill, the Butte, where portrait artists and souvenir sellers can be found, as they can be at place de Tertre, the old village square. The hill is also home to Paris last surviving vineyard, the harvest of which is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of October.
