Mont St-Michel

The famous sanctuary of Mont-St-Michel lies off the coast of Normandy, 66 km north of Rennes and 52 km east of Saint-Malo. This 14th-century abbey of abbeys, perched on its rocky pinnacle, is one of the architectural marvels of the world and is the most visited monument in France after the Eiffel Tower and Versailles. A visit during the off season or late in the afternoon is advisable to avoid the throngs of pilgrims and travelers.
