Located at Ungersheim, just north of Mulhouse, the Ecomusee d'Alsace is the largest open-air museum in France. Containing some 70 traditional style buildings -- dismantled piece by piece in their village of origin and reassembled to form a new "village" -- the museum features constructions dating from 12th-19th century. Visitors can study the technical evolution of traditional building methods, meet the village craftsmen (the blacksmith, the wheelwright, the potter, the clogmaker and the baker) or enjoy numerous activities and historical reenactments.
