Nimes France

Located on the border between Provence and Languedoc, 43 km W of Avignon, Nimes is known for its Roman antiquities, including one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world and a near-perfect Roman temple. Originally established by the Gauls, the city developed around a natural spring and was later named Nemausus by the Romans in honor of their river god. Today, in addition to relics of its past, Nimes offers visitors a city redesigned by a number of notable architects and designers under the guidance of city mayor Jean Bousquet.
