Encompassing the southernmost reaches of the Massif Central, the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park enjoys both Atlantic and Mediterranean climatic influences -- the west populated with deciduous forests and lush valleys, while the east is dry and rocky. The park is home to a number of lakes, located both in the plateau region and the mountain area, including Le Laouzas and La Raviege, which have been developed for tourism. The northern area of the park is home to the Espinouse Mountains and is a haven for backpackers and rock climbers.
