Located 34 km NE of Lyon and 20 km west of Geneva (Switzerland), the hilltop village of Perouges began as a settlement for immigrants from Perugia (Italy). Famous in the 13th century as a center for linen weaving, the village has again embraced its heritage following the modern influx of craftspeople. Great effort has been made to preserve the medieval character of the town, with a concentration on the restoration of its historic buildings. As a result, Perouges has been used as the setting for a number of historical films.
