Pont-Aven France |
Located 324 miles W of Paris and 20 miles SE of Quimper along the Aven River, the picturesque village of Pont-Aven was a favorite of painter Paul Gauguin. Along with other late 19th-century painters including Paul Serusier and Emile Bernard, Gauguin helped to establish the Ecole de Pont-Aven (Pont-Aven School), characterized by a somewhat primitive, colorful style of painting inspired by the Breton landscape. The town today contains some 50 galleries.
