Located at the confluence of the Aveyron and Auterne rivers, overlooking the Plateau de Segala, the medieval city of Rodez was divided in two by political conflict. The place du Bourg, the center of the section that served the interest of the counts of Rouergue, is, today, lined by shops and elegant 16th-century houses, while the place de la Cite, home to the bishops of Rodez, is dominated by the 13th-century Cathedrale Notre Dame.
