Located 45 km south of Besancon at the base of a narrow valley, Salins has been producing salt for around 1,000 years. Today, it functions as a recuperative spa town and an earthenware center. The Salines de Salins (brine wells) are the towns main attraction. A veritable underground cathedral, they have been transformed into a museum detailing the process of salt extraction.
