Located 75 km east of Metz at the French-German border, the town of Sarreguemines is known as the Capital of Faience. Production of faience ware started here in 1790 and, from the 19th century onwards, Sarreguemines has produced and sold a vast collection of faience all over the world. The town offers two museums dedicated to tracing the history of faience in Sarreguemines: The Museum of Faience Techniques, which features reconstructed workshops, and the Historical Museum of Faience.
