Located three kilometers above the confluence of the Loire River and its tributary, the Thouet, Saumur is noted for its cavalry school, its chateau and its wine. Around Saumur, visitors can see some of the best troglodyte dwellings of the Loire Valley, carved from the soft limestone of the area.
