The second longest river in France (after the Loire), the 780-km-long Seine begins 30 km NW of Dijon and flows through Paris, eventually emptying into the English Channel at Le Havre. As it travels through Paris, the river is edged by tree-lined quays with open-air bookstalls lining the rivers left bank. A variety of cruise operators offer lunch and dinner cruises along the Seine; most cruises depart from Paris, but other cities, such as Giverny and Vernon, also serve as departure points.
