Located 19 km west of Nancy, the octagonal fortress city of Toul is surrounded by the Moselle River and the Canal de la Marne. Its sites include the Cathedrale St-Etienne, built over a period of 300 years and reflecting a conglomeration of styles from Gothic to Romanesque, and the Gothic Eglise St-Gengoult, featuring stained-glass windows depicting the life of its namesake. Vineyards, which produce the local Cotes de Toul wines, are located just north of the city.
