Tours

Located at the junction of the Loire and Cher rivers, Tours is 144 miles SW of Paris and 70 miles SW of Orleans. The city is the primary center for exploring the Loire Valley and its numerous chateaux and is noted for its gourmet food and wine. A 55-minute TGV train ride links Tours with Paris Montparnasse. The city, largely rebuilt after the destruction of World War II, is a modern one, boasting 30 street markets throughout the city and a sizeable student population. The pedestrianized place Plumereau, located in the old part of Tours, contains medieval half-timbered houses as well as plenty of cafes, boutiques and galleries.
