Located 135 miles SE of Paris and 32 miles S of Auxerre, the village of Vezelay lies on a hill 360 feet above the countryside on the left bank of the Cure River. During the Middle Ages, Vezelay was a meeting point for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Today, Vezelays main attraction is the 12th-century Basilique Ste-Madeleine, once rumored to contain the remains of Mary Magdalene.
